Hyderabad, Mar 10: Today (Thursday, Mar 10) the slogan - Jai Telangana echoed in the air of Hyderabad. Despite central government's immense efforts to foil the much hyped million march, pro-Telangana supporters succeeded to gather at the venue, Tank Bund.
Police, reprotedly, sealed all the surrounding routes for vehicles in the city. Though thousands of protesters reached Tank Bund from different directions.
The march was scheduled between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm and was promised to be a peaceful one as the orgainsers claimed, " (the million march) only aimed at drawing the Centre's attention on the Telangana issue."
The organisers received support from the Opposition parties like BJP, TDP. Certain Congress legislators also showered their support to the million rally organisers.
However, proving the orgainers' claim of "peaceful march", the region witnessed a massive violence ahead of the million march. Reports showed that protesters pelted stones at the police and in returns, tear gas was used by the cops.
When the leaders of Telugu Desam, TRS and BJP tried to proceed to take part in the march, they were, reportedly, taken into custody by the police. News have also emerged that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader and former minister N Narasimha Reddy has been arrested in Hyderabad.
The Telangana political Joint Action Committee (JAC) Convener M Kodandaram was detained as he was coming out of the JAC office. "Police have been behaving in a very undemocratic way. They have arrested hundreds of people in entire Telangana," stated Kodandaram.
The board examinations in the stated have been emerged and sources reported that Telangana protest has become a set back for the students in the state. However, a student, who took part in the protest rally, claimed, "The future of coming generations is more important for me than my examination."
